SWINDON Town goalkeeper Lee Camp says a potential return next season is one of the options on the table, but his future is unlikely to be decided until a new manager is appointed.

Camp arrived at the County Ground on a short-term deal in March and immediately helped the club to consecutive wins and clean sheets over Fleetwood Town and Bristol Rovers, respectively.

And although Camp has conceded 21 goals in eight appearances since, many fans have been impressed with his shot-stopping ability as Town leaked goals left, right and centre.

Asked whether the Derby-born goalkeeper, who will be 37 in August, would consider a return to Wiltshire next season, Camp said: “It’s on the table. We’ve had very brief conversations – testing the water conversations – but a lot of it will come down to the new manager and what the football club want to do.

“They probably don’t want to sign a goalkeeper and then a new manager comes in and has a different idea. A lot of it will come down the new manager and who he wants to recruit and how he sees his team.

“It’s on the table, and there will always be a clear line of communication. I’ll always be very open and honest with my thoughts.

“I’m at a stage in my life where I am transitioning out of the game, I accept that. I am 37 in August, I’ve got a young family that is settled up north, so we will talk. That’s as much as I can say.”

Camp’s last game as Swindon’s number one could come on Sunday as Town travel up to the DW Stadium to take on Wigan Athletic.

With both sides’ respective fate already settled, Camp says his teammates must round off their League One season by putting some blood and sweat onto the shirt one last time.

He said: “The game against Wigan is about having pride – we still get paid at the end of the month so we’re still responsible to perform and put in a shift for the team.

“I know there’s no supporters there, but they’ll be watching, so the least you can do is put some blood and sweat onto the shirt and have a go.

“The preparation has been good, we’ve got a plan. Now it’s just about going out there and executing it.”
