ADVER Sport reporter Jonny Leighfield takes a look at a handful of midfielders Swindon Town could try to sign over the summer in order to help the club bounce back next season.

The first thing to say would be that none of these players are linked with actually signing for Town. They are just a group of the sort of players that I felt Swindon could potentially end up signing and ones that I felt could conceivably be plying their trade in League Two next term.

It’s also tough to know which kind of player the club might go after as the team is currently without a manager. Nevertheless, any or all of these four from League One and Two clubs would be encouraging.

The first one is former Ipswich Town midfielder, Emyr Huws. The Welshman was released by the Tractor Boys after playing just 12 times last term, however, the defensive midfielder is a classy ball player - albeit one who lacks a little bit of pace.

But in League Two, genuine pace is not around in abundance therefore Huws is fully capable of dictating play from deep without having to cover every blade of grass. Think of Huws as a potential Anthony Grant replacement.

Another potential signing could be ex-Plymouth Argyle midfielder, Ben Reeves. The attacking midfielder played 32 times last season but only scored two goals and failed to assist any.

His past two seasons have been slightly disappointing by previous standards, but his quality is evident and a spell in the fourth tier may see Reeves rediscover his mojo while helping Town achieve their goals at the same time.

Moving out to the side of midfield, Jordan Maguire-Drew could be an excellent acquisition for Town.

The 23-year-old is an out-and-out winger who is capable of playing on either wing in midfield or as part of a three up front.

The Crawley-born play-maker was released by his hometown club a couple of weeks back after scoring three and assisting four in 35 appearances.

Finally, Portsmouth’s recently-released defensive midfielder Bryn Morris could be a potential option to replace the likes of Matty Palmer.

Morris spent the first half of last season at Pompey before going out on loan to Northampton Town where he played the majority of his 31 League One appearances.

A steady hand in midfield with the ability to play higher is the kind of player Town will likely want.
