SWINDON Town will take on Southern League opposition in early July as new boss John McGreal prepares his charges for a promotion push in 2021/22.

Town will make the short trip to the Webbswood Stadium to face Swindon Supermarine in a friendly on Tuesday, July 6 (7.30pm) before visiting Melksham Town on Friday, July 9 (7.30pm).

The Sky Bet League Two season kicks off on Saturday, August 7.

Fans hoping to see what is likely to be a new-look squad in action will have to wait until the government's lockdown announcement on June 21, with Marine waiting until after that date to release ticket information for the visit of their near neighbours.

Tickets for the Melksham friendly be provisionally available at £10 for adults, £8 for OAPs and free of charge for those supporters 15 and under, with more details to follow at www.melkshamtownfc.net

McGreal was unveiled as John Sheridan's successor last week and immediately set his sights on an instant return to English football's third tier after relegation in 2020/21.

He has nine players under contract but says he is already fielding calls from agents after filling the Town hotseat.

When asked about his targets at Wednesday's press conference, he said: "Winning games of football. Last year was horrible for everyone and getting relegated is not nice.

"(I want to) get players onto the pitch that we're all going to be proud of and having that identity.

"When I last saw the club in League Two they had that so I don't want to get too far away from that.

"I'm a huge believer in the connection with the fans. They'll be so important to us.

"We're Swindon Town Football Club and the job comes with the challenge of winning games.

"I want to have a promotion on my CV and a club like Swindon has to be in League One.

"From day one of pre-season, the message will be 'we have to push towards that top seven'. We want to be successful."
