ADVER Sport reporter Jonny Leighfield rounds up all the latest stories to come out of League Two.

EX-NORTHAMPTON Town defender Lloyd Jones has signed a two-year deal for Cambridge following his release by the Cobblers.

The 25-year-old came through the youth ranks at hometown club Plymouth Argyle, before signing for Liverpool in 2013 and then joining Luton in 2018 following a loan spell at Swindon Town.

Jones, who first moved to Sixfields in 2020, becomes the U’s first summer signing since securing promotion from League Two.

CRAWLEY have announced the signing of midfielder Jack Payne on a one-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.

Payne will join Crawley on July 1 in an undisclosed deal from National League side Eastleigh.

The 29-year-old has had previous experience of Championship, League One and League Two football, having played for Peterborough, Blackpool and Leyton Orient.

PORT VALE have announced the signing of defender Aaron Martin on a free transfer from Hamilton.

The 31-year-old will join the League Two side on July 1 following the expiry of his Accies contract.

Martin began his career with Eastleigh and has also had permanent spells with Southampton, Birmingham City, Yeovil Town, Coventry City, Oxford United, and Exeter City.

LEYTON ORIENT have made midfielder Darren Pratley their first signing of the summer and appointed him club captain.

The 36-year-old moves across London from League One side Charlton on a free transfer after three seasons at the Valley.

Pratley, who worked with O’s boss Kenny Jackett at Swansea, said: “This is a massive club in the division, it’s a local club to me and I’m happy to be here.

“Kenny signed me 15 years ago at Swansea when I was 21, so it was a no-brainer.”

TRANMERE Rovers have signed defender Tom Davies on a one-year contract following his departure from Bristol Rovers.

The 29-year-old has helped Portsmouth and Coventry to promotion from League Two, and new Rovers boss Micky Mellon believes his experience will be invaluable.

Mellon told the club’s website: “Tom has won promotions from this level but also he has played for clubs that have the demands that we have on players.”
