SWINDON Town suffered a 3-2 defeat to Hungerford Town in the professional outfit’s second pre-season game on Tuesday night.

The County Ground side went one up through one of three trialists before Hungerford turned the game on its head via Ryan Seager and a Jojo Wollacott own goal.

Academy prospect Ben Boulden equalised shortly into the second half before Hungerford nabbed the victory through Nana Kyei with 20 minutes to play.

A scrappy first 15 minutes that featured a decent attempt on target per side made way as Swindon began to control the tempo.

Though the visitors saw the majority of the ball, it was the hosts who had the better of the chances as Jojo Wollacott had to stretch down to his left to tip an effort around the post.

But as the 30-minute mark came and went, it was Swindon who opened the scoring. Youth player Donny Gordon won an aerial battle and powered a header through on goal for one of Swindon’s two trialists to run onto.

Thought to be trialist Bruno Tavares, the wily winger rounded the goalkeeper and slotted home from a tight angle to the right side of the goal.

Appearing to be buoyed by the goal, Swindon set about trying to make their dominance count, but 10 minutes later the home side equalised in fine style.

From a free-kick out on the left, the ball was played short inside and then chipped over the top for Seager. He took a touch to steady himself before volleying into the far corner with his right.

And less than two minutes later, the National League South outfit had turned the game on its head. Hungerford played a one-two on the edge of the Swindon box which Rob Hunt cut out.

But facing his own goal, the defender hit an overly firm pass back towards Wollacott who appeared to panic and slice the pass into his own net.

With eight changes made by Swindon in the second half, the new-look side made the best possible start with an early equaliser.

A smart breakaway down the left saw the ball fed out to Tavares on the right wing. He jinked onto his right and pulled a shot across goal that Boulden was there to tap in on the line.

Following a septet of Hungerford changes, the hosts re-took the lead in the 70th minute after a cross from the left was not dealt with by Harvey Fox at left-back. Kyei stole in at the second time of asking to bundle the ball home.

Swindon’s young second-half XI tried their best to summon an equaliser, but the few half chances that were created rarely tested Hungerford’s number one and the visitors suffered defeat.
