SWINDON Town defender Akin Odimayo is training with Portsmouth ahead of an expected move to the League One club, Adver Sport can confirm.

The defender only arrived in Swindon at the beginning of last season after leaving Reading U23, and went on to make 33 appearances in a variety of positions before being named Adver Sport player of the season ahead of midfielder Jack Payne.

The 21-year-old saw his original contract at the County Ground expire at the end of June, although Odimayo was offered a new deal over the course of the summer break.

While talks remained ongoing up until a few weeks ago, it emerged that Pompey's League One rivals Sheffield Wednesday and Doncaster Rovers were also keen on bringing Odimayo to Yorkshire.

However, with the defender confirmed to be training with Danny Cowley's squad at St George's Park this week, it appears as though a deal to decide Odimayo's immediate future is close to being completed.
