THE Professional Footballers Association (PFA) has announced it worked in conjunction with the English Football League (EFL) to pay 60 per cent of Swindon Town's players and staff's wages for June.
As first reported by Adver Sport on Thursday, anyone employed by the County Ground club has now received over half of their outstanding wages, with the remainder set to arrive alongside their expected July wage.
Originally thought to be the sole responsibility of the EFL, the PFA announced in a statement on Friday morning it had played a significant role alongside the football league in securing owed payments for staff.
The PFA said the money has come via parachute payments and it is hopeful the remaining amount owed will be received by players and staff "soon."
In a statement seen by Adver Sport, the PFA said: "The PFA, working in conjunction with the EFL, has secured a 60 per cent payment from Swindon Town against outstanding wages for June 2021.
"After discussions with the EFL and the League Two club, the agreement has led to the players receiving a proportion of last month’s salary from parachute payments.
"We are hopeful that the outstanding balance will be paid soon, as work continues to resolve the remaining issues.
"This agreement follows the successful payment of full player wages at Sheffield Wednesday following an intervention from the PFA."
