SWINDON Town head coach Ben Garner has revealed he is looking to add two more forwards in this transfer window – one of which could be signed this week.

Garner remained tight-lipped on any information regarding the players in question but said the second of the two forwards – for which a deal is expected to take a little longer – was Town’s top target in that area of the pitch.

The 41-year-old stated Town had been successful in attracting many of their top targets in other positions already this summer and is hopeful of bringing another to the County Ground before August 31.

Swindon supporters may not have to wait long for the first of the two forwards to arrive though, with Garner suggesting a deal is close to being completed.

He said: “We want probably two more in forward areas – one which I think we will get done quite quickly, and another one – who is our top target in that position – that is an ongoing process.

“We’ve had conversations, it’s just whether the player can come and join us basically.

“We want to continue and show the faith in that player that we’ve shown so far, and we’d like to get that over the line.

“If that doesn’t happen for whatever reason, then we will move onto other targets that we’ve got on the list. We’ve identified those key players, and if possible, we’d like to get them in the building.”

Garner is keen to boost his attacking options but says he remains confident in Ipswich Town loanee, Tyreece Simpson.

The teenage forward has applied himself well in the opening three matches, according to Garner, but the Swindon head coach would like to bring in one or two more in order to rest or compliment Simpson in the months ahead.

Garner said: “You’d like to think this club would be an easy sell for a striker.

“I look at this team sometimes and think: “I might play in there myself as a number nine” because they’re a joy to watch.

“But I think Tyreece has done great for a 19-year-old lad coming in on his first loan. He’s had chances in each game – if that hadn’t happened, I’d probably be a bit more concerned.

“We’re really, really pleased with him as a start, but we’d just like some competition for him. Someone who can come in and play with him or give him a rest at times.

“In terms of the targets, we’re very open in terms of who we’re speaking to.”
