NEW Swindon Town signing Alex Gilbert says he is looking forward to creating a fruitful partnership with fellow loanee Tyreece Simpson up front this season.

Versatile Brentford forward Gilbert was Swindon’s only deadline-day arrival as the club looked to bolster its attacking options, signing a season-long loan deal with three hours of the window remaining.

The 19-year-old will link up with fellow teenage starlet, Simpson, with the pair hoping to make waves during their respective first experiences in senior football.

Gilbert has only made two first-team appearances for Brentford – both coming in the FA Cup earlier this year as the Bees bested Middlesbrough before going down 3-1 to eventual winners, Leicester City.

Hoping to kick on and help Town continue their sparkling start, Gilbert discusses the type of relationship he is hoping to form with Simpson.

Speaking to club media, Gilbert said: “I play just behind the striker, I like to make things happen, get on the ball, create, play in-between the lines, and hopefully score some goals. I like to score off both feet and I won’t be afraid to take some shots, take risks and that’s what I hope to bring.

“Tyreece is a bigger lad so I’m looking forward to playing off him, getting around him and trying to make stuff happen for him. Hopefully he can make stuff happen for me too and we can score some goals together.”

The 19-year-old has a decent amount of academy football under his belt, having played 29 times since the 2017-18 season began. Gilbert has scored nine times in that period and has added four assists too.

The versatile forward says he is excited to try and add to those numbers in front of fans for the first time, having never played in front of a capacity crowd before.

Going on to discuss what attracted him to sign for Town, Gilbert said: “It was my first experience of transfer deadline day action and drama, but it has been good and I’m excited to come to a club like Swindon and get performing for the fans.

“Looking at the previous games and speaking to the manager, the style of play they are trying to achieve here is exactly what I want to do.

“I want to play football, score some goals, and dominate the ball which is what they do having seen their possession stats from the past few games, and I think it suits me perfectly. Hopefully we can keep it up and kick-on.”
