MELKSHAM Town embarrassed Royal Wootton Bassett Town 9-3 in the first round of the Wiltshire Premier Shield on Tuesday night.

Luke Ballinger struck five goals, while Jake Mawford netted a hat-trick and Albie Hopkins completed the rout.

Brad Pagliaroli opened the scoring for Bassett, but despite Bailey Gallagher scoring twice to bring the game back to 3-3 in the second half, Sam Collier's side saw their goal flooded late on by a rampant Melksham.

The Southern League outfit saw a five-game winning run ended last Saturday, however, with Hartley Wintney triumphing 2-1 in the FA Trophy second qualifying round.

Also in the Wiltshire Premier Shield, Bradford Town romped to a 4-1 win away at Amesbury Town thanks to a hat-trick from George Box and a further success for Olly Sterling.

Elsewhere, in the Hellenic League Premier Division, Bassett beat Fairford Town 2-0 at Cinder Lane to claim local derby bragging rights.

After Fairford's Danny Gudger was sent off just before half-time, goals from Gio Wrona and Matt Bennett in the second half helped Collier's side seal the win.

It was a decent week for Westbury United as they collected four points from six against Tuffley Rovers and Shrivenham.

First, a brace from Ben Griffiths was added to by Jack Biddiscombe as Westbury won 3-0 away at Tuffley on Saturday. The west Wiltshire side then drew 0-0 at Shrivenham in midweek.

Shrivenham were beaten 4-0 at home by Bishops Cleeve at the weekend.

Brandon Mundy and Mark Cooper scored for Corsham in a 2-0 win at home to Westfields while Calne Town drew 1-1 at home to Cribbs thanks to a late Jordan Kirk goal.
