SWINDON fighters Lewis Roberts and Jensen Irving secured victories in the latest Fight Town event at the MECA on Saturday.
Debutant Roberts put in a measured and mature display in the featherweight bout to win his match against Jake Pollard on points.
Meanwhile, super-welterweight Jensen Irving, who was fighting for the first time in almost two years, successfully overcame Evgenii Vazem on points to remain unbeaten and improve his professional record to 4-0.
It was a successful evening for the other two Neilson Boxing-managed fighters with Jake Price and Brad Ingram also putting in positive performances.
Hereford’s Price made his debut but had to settle for a draw as he came up against a resilient Dean Evans, with the scorecards reading 38-38 after their four-round contest.
And in the show’s penultimate contest, Brad Ingram produced a polished showing on his professional debut, winning all four rounds against Qasim Hussain at welterweight.
Welsh duo Conor McIntosh and Jay Munn took to the ring to face Rustem Fatkhullin and Vladimir Fleschhaur, respectively. Despite both having their opponents hurt, neither could quote close the fight with a stoppage, so had to settle for a win via decision.
Calne’s Connor Gray was one of four debutants on the Fight Town card, but he too got off the mark with a win after his opponent retired at the start of the third round with a rib injury.
The show was headlined by Bristol’s Anton Haskins, who successfully extended his faultless record to 3-0.
Reviewing the night of action, Neilson Boxing Promoter and manager Mark Neilson said the show demonstrated the talent here in the South West.
“We had a sell-out crowd and it was a cracking night in Swindon, it’s so good to be back putting shows on again,” he said.
“It was a bit of a development card, we had a lot of debuts, fighters who have a few wins and some who haven’t fought for nearly two years.
“So for us it was about blowing the cobwebs off these guys ahead of a really big 2022 where we will be chasing down titles.”
This weekend, Neilson Boxing takes its Fight Town series to Bracknell, where Wiltshire’s Johnny Ward joins fellow unbeaten prospects Andre Grant and Alfie Best on the bill.
