DEFENDER Ellis Iandolo has signed a new contract with Swindon Town.

The length of Iandolo's extended deal remains undisclosed, but has been called a "notable piece of business" by Town.

Swindon's longest-serving player signed in the summer of 2015 and has gone on to make 114 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals - the latter of which came during the 2016-17 campaign.

Though Swindon remain under a transfer embargo, the new contract for Iandolo suggests some long-term planning has started as Clem Morfuni and his board attempt to streamline the club's debts following the summer's takeover.

In a statement on the club's website, Swindon Town said: "He (Iandolo) has fitted perfectly into head coach Ben Garner's system and has emerged as a key cog in a team fighting at the top of the League Two table, while Iandolo has also displayed his leadership qualities on and off the field this season.

"Showing his love and commitment to the Reds, Iandolo will now feature as a big piece in the bright future of Swindon Town and his extension is a notable piece of business for the club heading into the busy festive period."

Speaking to Town's website, Iandolo said: "It means a lot. The club has been a big part of my life since I arrived, there have been a lot of ups and downs but the club is definitely going in the right direction and it can only go up from here. It was a no-brainer for me to sign this extension.

"My family has developed a relationship with the club, my little brothers and my dad have been to watch all the games over the years since I've been here, and for me to sign this deal means an awful lot to them as well.

"I want to keep improving and being part of the future success. For me it is about doing what I can to help the club and the team get better."
