SWINDON Town Supporters Club treasurer Tim Keen pens the latest Town Talk column for Adver Sport.

With December upon us and Christmas coming ever closer, the Official Supporters Club is getting in the Christmas spirit!

We’ve joined up with the club and the STFC Community Foundation to collect gifts for children who are spending the Christmas period at the Great Western Hospital.

We asked our members for donations and they’ve been extremely generous – thank you! These presents will be delivered by the players to Brighter Futures who will distribute them to the children at the hospital.

We’re also supporting the club with the Junior Reds Christmas Party – we’ve organised for goody bags to be handed out to all the Junior Robins – full of Christmas treats!

Finally on the festive front, look out for a free gift from the OSC at the Walsall match on 18th December (limited number available) where we’ll be enlisting Rockin’ Robin himself to help with this give-away!

We held our AGM in the Legends Lounge before the Harrogate Town match on Saturday and received some very positive feedback from those who came along.

Did you know that we’ve doubled our membership to over 600 in the last two years? We’ve also grown our Twitter followers by over 140 per cent and Facebook group membership by over 250 per cent in the same period of time!

We’d love to reach 700 members before the end of the year - It’s only £5 to join the OSC – you might even win a Christmas hamper if you join soon!

Finally, I’d like to express my own opinion on “boo-gate”. I’m fortunate to have been to four away games this season and witnessed four fantastic performances and victories.

It’s clear that Ben Garner’s footballing philosophy is based on a completely different strategy to the cut and thrust of Paolo and Richie, and at home that does lead to a “slow burn” type of match.

However, fans must appreciate that this is how the players have been coached to play and in fact is how the team has been built. So getting frustrated with another sideways pass and booing the players at half-time, really isn’t helping.

Let’s get behind the boys and see what a difference 9,000 voices can really make!
