SWINDON Town Supporters Trust board member Alex Pollock pens the final thoughts of 2021 from the fan group that played a significant part in helping transfer ownership of Swindon Town earlier this year.

The Christmas holidays are a time to reflect on the 12 months gone by and put yourself in good stead for the forthcoming year.

The continued journey of a Swindon Town fan is something that always allows for a good conversation starter, and this year has been no exception…

Fixtures behind closed doors, the threat of administration, a lengthy court battle, new ownership, new management, and now sitting in the top half of the League Two table with a number of games in hand against some of those rivals around us.

For the Trust, we’re reflecting on the positivity of the last 12 months and we’d like to thank those members who have continued to support our work and welcome the new members we’ve gained since the beginning of the year.

We’ve seen a 400 per cent increase in membership since the infamous “on the brink” radio interview back in early February.

But looking ahead to the future, it’s important to us that we continue our momentum on key projects with the club and local community, and represent the views of our membership in 2022.

We’re working hard alongside the club and Swindon Borough Council to finalise details for the joint-venture approach and acquisition of The County Ground; we are progressing with our NextGen campaign providing free tickets to local schools; we’re improving the membership packages and rewards for Trust members, and we’re working with the club and the FSA on sensory matchday packs for autistic children.

It is our hope, and what we’re planning for, that our AGM takes place in March next year. This will be an opportunity for us to showcase our focus and strategy with the membership, reflect on some of the projects to date, and make additions to our board. We’ll have details of the plans for our AGM in the coming months.

We’d like to take this opportunity to wish every Town fan a very Merry Christmas, and a prosperous New Year.

We hope to see you next Wednesday for the final fixture of the calendar year! COYR!
