FORMER Swindon Town manager John Sheridan says his focus is purely on Oldham Athletic ahead of his return to the County Ground on Saturday.

Sheridan was in charge of Town for five months last season, winning just eight of 33 games at the helm as the club was relegated to League Two.

After announcing he planned to retire following his decision to exit Swindon, the 57-year-old was pulled back into football when offering his services to the club he ended his playing career with.

Oldham remain desperate to avoid becoming the first former Premier League side to be relegated out of the Football League, and they've made decent strides under Sheridan having only lost once since he returned eight games ago.

Now set for a return to the side he walked out on last April, Sheridan insists his new team is more than capable of emerging with the win they desperately need in order to fuel their survival ambitions.

Speaking to the Oldham Times, Sheridan said: "I don't want to talk about Swindon. It's nothing to do with me any more.

"My objective is to go there as manager of Oldham and win the game.

"They're a good team, a good footballing side with some clever players in the team.

"They're having a decent season and I respect that. We will work on how we can nullify their threats.

"I'm expecting a tough game, but it's another game I feel we can go there and stamp our game on them, carry on what we've been doing of late in terms of scoring goals and creating chances."

Since arriving at Boundary Park in late January, Sheridan and ex-Town coach Tommy Wright have helped Oldham beat play-off chasing Bristol Rovers and draw to Newport County with 10 men.

Still in the bottom two, Sheridan is hopeful the inconsistency of League Two results will play in Oldham's favour at the weekend.

He said: "We carry on what we've been doing. The lads have been great since I came in.

"The league's inconsistent. I can't predict results week in, week out. There are some teams down at the bottom who are good teams and they are going to win games.

"But it's not good worrying about anyone else, all we can do is focus on ourselves."
