SWINDON Town fans have suggested relocating the away end, turning the ground around slightly, and even solar panels to help recoup some money from the energy budget.

However, nothing - it seems - is more important to a Town fan than saving the famous Rolex clock that hangs proudly above the Stratton Bank.

After Trust STFC chair Steve Mytton said fans should be asked what they would like to see in their ground now that it is almost in the hands of the club and Trust, Adver Sport asked supporters to suggest ideas which those in charge could take on board when designing alterations to the County Ground - here is what they said.

Moonraker79 said: “I’d like to see the Stratton Bank get a roof and a bit of an upgrade, and put all the away fans in there so we can put the whole of the Arkells back to home fans only while adding a few more seats back into the space that exists there at present.

“The Arkells could do with a few improvements inside and out, and maybe a new roof and directors’ box if the budget can stretch that far (the Trust did say dream big).

“The Town End is where the real potential lies, so I’d love to see any new stand link up the Don Rogers and Arkells stands to give us greater capacity and an even better atmosphere.”

Hoverish said: “Agree with all of that. Would like to see the clock kept somehow as well if possible. It’s iconic.”

Meanwhile, The Duke of Banbury echoed his fellow supporter’s comments regarding the clock. He said: “The only Rolex clock inside a football ground in the world - it has to be part of it.”

DBSwin987 was another advocate of maintaining the Rolex’s place at SN1. They said: “The clock can never leave, it is a one-off and I wouldn’t mind a pound for each time I ‘ve looked at it at the end of games.

“It was donated to the club and installed in 1963 to celebrate promotion to the old second division - now the Championship.”

Others had non-clock related wishes. ‘Ed is back’ had a more radical idea than many others.

He said: “Rotate the ground 20 degrees toward the roundabout, freeing more space where the bank meets the Don Rogers stand.

“Build a proper stand down the Stratton Bank end joined on to the Don Rogers. Change the Town End into a stand for away supporters for better ingress/egress.”

And finally, Get that Bus Out “Butler” suggested an eco-friendly area of improvement to the County Ground.

He said: “It may be time to put a solar-panelled roof on the Stratton Bank to pay for some of the electricity used.

“With various fuel prices going upwards it’s surely time to progress the solar energy further.”
