HARRY McKirdy was crowned the Swindon Advertiser Swindon Town Player of the Year for the 2021-22 season on Wednesday night.

The 20-goal striker was presented with the award at the event organised by Swindon Town Official Supporters Club after collecting 49 per cent of all votes.

Midfielder Louis Reed claimed second with 33 per cent while versatile defender Ellis Iandolo (11 per cent) took third ahead of attacker Jonny Williams and goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott.

McKirdy headed the list of five Swindon players after Adver readers narrowed down squad members who had made more than 20 appearances into the final quintet.

The 25-year-old – who has scored 18 League Two goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions – also won the Official Supporters Club’s Player of the Season ahead of Reed and Iandolo.

McKirdy capped off his successful night by scooping Town’s Goal of the Season prize too courtesy of his well-taken strike against Manchester City in the FA Cup third round.

In true McKirdy style, the striker honestly admitted he did not feel his goal deserved the award as he said it was “probably the most meaningful rather than the best.”

Meanwhile, Reed received a couple of trophies after making the top three in several other categories.

The influential central midfielder was voted the Disabled Supporters Club’s Player of the Season as well as winning the Player’s Player by half a vote.

Secretary Ray Murphy – who was presenting the award – explained that one unnamed player could not decide who to vote for and chose to split his ballot, thus deciding the prize by the barest of margins.

In the Swindon Town Young Player of the Season category, former loanee Kaine Kesler-Hayden was crowned the winner after a sparkling five months in Wiltshire.

Writing on Twitter once the award was confirmed, Kesler-Hayden said: “A massive thank you to everyone at SN1 that voted for me as Young Player of the Season!

“I’m delighted to have won the award. Good luck this weekend. See you all soon.”

Jack Payne was the other Town man to claim an accolade after winning the SAS Travel Away Player of the Season.

Travelling coach members were given one vote each after an away game, and the top five scored points which counted towards an overall league table.

Despite missing almost two months through injury, Payne pipped McKirdy and Iandolo to first place and made it a second campaign in a row with an award to his name after winning the OSC title last term.
