Swindon Town owner Clem Morfuni has thanked the fans of the club for their incredible support this season.

Town finished in a remarkable sixth place in the League Two table when they were one of the favourites to go down.

A very difficult summer saw the Robins go into pre-season with hardly any players.

Town’s dream of gaining an unlikely promotion to League One was ended on Thursday night, following their heart-breaking penalty shoot-out to defeat to Port Vale in the play-offs.

Now Morfuni has thanked the fans for all their efforts this season.

In a statement on the Swindon Town website on Friday, Morfuni said: “I know we are all feeling the pain of last night’s game but I want to make you all aware of how proud I am of all of you from our players, coaching staff, backroom staff and our supporters and partners of how far we have come from last Summer.

"You have all been part of an amazing turnaround which has really pulled our club together and we are now in a much stronger position both on and off the pitch.

"The work that has been put in by all the footballing staff has been amazing, and I know with this team that we will only get stronger on the pitch going forwards.

"We have made great strides off the pitch as well and a big thank you to all our backroom staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes.

"Going forwards we have to be positive and work together to continue to build our Club forwards.  The support from our fans has been amazing, you are the best but we need you now more than ever to continue to back us and be positive!

"This will help ensure that next season we come back stronger with hopefully greater crowds and noise than ever before which will really help us push onto the next level.

"Thanks as ever for your support
