SWINDON Town striker Harry McKirdy will miss Tuesday night’s League Cup first-round clash away at Walsall after picking up a one-game suspension against Salford City on Saturday.

McKirdy was booked for dissent in the 14th minute and then shown a second yellow card for a debatable foul shortly before half-time.

Swindon played the remaining minutes of the opening 45 and the entire second half with 10 men, holding on to secure a point from their 0-0 draw.

Post-match, the Football Association confirmed to Adver Sport that McKirdy would miss Town’s next game only, which happens to be the League Cup affair, and not next weekend’s League Two fixture away at Carlisle United.

According to the FA, yellow-card suspensions are competition-specific – therefore a ban for five cautions would carry into the next League Two game – while red cards lead to a ban in the subsequent fixture, no matter the competition.

As McKirdy was ultimately sent off, even though it was as a result of two yellow cards, he will miss Town’s trip to the Poundland Bescot Stadium rather than a game against one of his former employers.
