SWINDON Town head coach Scott Lindsey believes a complete performance and a positive result for his team is right around the corner, with a trip to Walsall in the League Cup next in the diary.

A mixed start to Swindon’s season began when Lindsey’s men fell apart in a 3-0 defeat to Harrogate Town following a decent opening 45.

The Robins then began slowly against Salford City at home before showing grit and determination during the second half of the club’s 0-0 draw to salvage a point with only 10 men.

Town have shown their quality in drips and drabs to this point, but an unbeaten Walsall is likely to require a far more rounded display from the County Ground club on Tuesday night.

Predicting that kind of showing to be imminent, Lindsey said: “I do feel a complete performance is right around the corner.

“There are a lot of players who are getting fit on the job. We’ve signed a couple of players late, and it’s a new squad so it will take time for them to bed in and understand the work we’re doing on the training ground.

“We’re trying to give them all the information we can about how we want them to play.

“Everything is a learning process, and it will take time, but I feel a full 90 minutes with a good result is not far away at all.”

The first cup game of the season is often a time for managers and head coaches to make wholesale changes while attempting to remain competitive in order progress through to the second round.

Lindsey suggested that will be no different for Swindon on Tuesday night, with the main focus being on claiming a first competitive victory of the campaign.

He said: “There will be players who are going to be getting some valuable game-time, and that’s great for them, but of course we want to win.

“We go into every game with that mindset, so it’s important that we progress. We want to win every game we play in – I think it’s important that we develop that winning mentality.

“I know it’s been a difficult start to the season. Against Harrogate, we found a really difficult second half where we shipped in goals which we shouldn’t have. On Saturday, we looked much more solid.

“It’s been a difficult start, without question, but we want to try and win games, and that will be no different against Walsall.”
