SWINDON Town head coach Scott Lindsey is not concerned over his team’s lack of cutting edge following three games without a goal for the Robins.

Town have only forced an opposition goalkeeper into making a save six times in 270 minutes on their way to drawing a blank since the final pre-season friendly at home to Cardiff City.

With fans concerned over the club’s lack of goal-scoring prowess, reporters have continued to ask Lindsey for explanations as to why his team are so shy in front of the posts.

Asked if Lindsey feels too much has been made of Town’s inability to score goals given the season is only three games old, the Town boss replied: “Yes.

“I feel like the stats are OK given we played with 10 men for 60 minutes last weekend and for 10 minutes on Tuesday.

“We’ve had six shots on goal and 14 chances on goal in three games, so we’re not too far off where we should be anyway.

“You can paint a picture however you want to paint it, but we’ve created chances.

“If you look at the first game, Jonny Williams goes through, Harry McKirdy has a shot on goal, Tomi Adeloye should have scored with a header.

“And that’s not including a set-piece where Mathieu Baudry heads it wide with an open goal. That’s a lot of chances in that game without the penalty miss.”

Lindsey felt Town did enough to beat Salford last weekend too, even though Harry McKirdy’s first-half red card reduced the host to 10 men for almost an hour.

The Town boss remains adamant that his team are creating enough chances to score but admitted they must become more clinical.

Lindsey said: “If you look at the second half against Salford, we should have had a penalty. I know it doesn’t go down as a chance, but we should have had a penalty.

“Ben Gladwin hits one on target which is blocked. There was one from a corner which was blocked on the line, and then Tom Clayton hits one which the keeper saves. So we feel like we’ve had more than enough chances to score goals.

“I think I would be more disappointed if we weren’t getting these chances. We’re confident that we’ll continue creating goal-scoring chances.

“Obviously, we’ve got to put it in the back of the net, but we feel that we’ve got players on the pitch who are capable of doing that.”
