SWINDON Town head coach Scott Lindsey was happy to settle for a point from his side’s League Two clash away at Carlisle United on Saturday.

Town were under pressure in the early moments at Brunton Park but weathered that storm to score their first goal of the campaign and take the lead courtesy of Jacob Wakeling.

After watching Omari Patrick enter his nomination for miss of the season midway through the first half, Swindon conceded moments before half-time when Patrick’s strike partner Kristian Dennis finished off a one-on-one chance.

MATCH REPORT: Swindon Town draw 1-1 with Carlisle United at Brunton Park.

A second half not without incident followed, but neither side was able to make the breakthrough and both were forced to settle for a point.

Reflecting on a difficult 90 minutes in sweltering heat in Cumbria, Lindsey said: “It’s a good point on the road.

“It’s a long way to come, and it’s a tough place to come as well. They’re a good side, so I’m pleased we got a point out of it. Obviously, we wanted three, but we’ll take a point.”

Swindon’s second point of the season came as a result of the club’s first goal – Wakeling’s well-taken finish finally giving Town fans something to celebrate.

The goal was one of six shots on target and 11 attempts overall for Swindon – a statistic which delighted Lindsey.

He said: “I thought we dominated possession, first and foremost, certainly for the first half.

“We made it a little bit end-to-end in the second half which we didn’t want because that probably suits them more than it suits us if it’s a bit like a basketball match.

“And, of course, we created chances which we’ve been criticised for. I think we created plenty of chances today, I think it was in double figures in both halves, so I was pleased with that.

“And obviously we’ve scored a goal, so I’m pleased with that as well.”
