SWINDON boxer Lewis Roberts says he can feel his fanbase growing after making a faultless start to life as a professional.
Roberts, who is also known as El Gordito, has won all four of his bouts to date after making his debut in November of last year.
Since then, the 20-year-old’s following has continued to grow, with hundreds turning out to see the talented prospect.
And he believes it is an integral part to having a successful boxing career.
“I’ve definitely grown my fanbase, and I think in the next few fights I’ll notice it even more,” he said.
“For my last fight I noticed that there were more people there who I didn’t know personally, so I do feel like it is all coming together a little bit now.
“I’ve had people recognise me now and then too from the event posters, which is quite nice.
“I’ve always known that building a fanbase was going to be a massive part of my career and I’m always thinking about it now.
“Now I try and think about new ways that I can do things, how I can promote myself more, it’s always on my mind now.”
The Neilson Boxing-managed fighter is set to return to the ring next month when he features on the latest Fight Town card at the MECA on Saturday, September 24.
That bout will be his fourth this year, in what has been a fast start to his career as a fighter, but the 20-year-old revealed it was always his intention to remain active.
“It was always in the plan to stay busy. We didn’t want to go stale, and when you’re young its easy to do that if you aren’t fighting all the time,” he added.
“We are still being a bit cautious as we don’t want to be in a rush with it.
“I’m pretty happy with all of my performances so far and how we’ve built up the camps.”
Promoter, Mark Neilson, said: “Lewis has made a fantastic start to his career, he’s won all of his fights and he’s done it in convincing fashion too.
“With Lewis, he’s a Swindon lad, so we are really pleased to see so many people get behind him at such an early stage. Hopefully that continues!”
