SCOTT Lindsey is relishing the opportunity of giving some much-needed minutes to certain members of his squad ahead of his side's Papa Johns Trophy fixture against Plymouth Argyle tomorrow.

In what is expected to be a heavily rotated Town squad to feature at The County Ground tomorrow, Swindon’s head coach will be looking to give minutes to players returning from injuries or who have simply just not had very much regular game time.

But Lindsey feels whatever line-up fielded tomorrow night will be capable of winning the game.

“When I Look at the starting squad for tomorrow night, we want to give valuable minutes to players coming back from injury or who haven’t had much game time, but it’s still a very strong squad as it’s a game we want to win.

“In previous games which weren’t league fixtures we’ve selected younger players and probably got criticism for that, however, we believe the players picked are good enough to win these games.”

Ellis Iandolo featured on the bench for Town’s 1-0 win away to Doncaster on Saturday, who most likely have some sort of involvement against Argyle in this group stage tie.

Lindsey also confirmed that Rushian Hepburn-Murphy is set to get 30 minutes off the bench tomorrow night, meaning Swindon fans will get to take a look at the deadline day signing for the first time.

“He’s [Hepburn-Murphy] been looking sharp and aggressive going forward in training, so we are hoping he comes on and shows a real impact from him.

Despite supporters’ opinions on the competition, the Town head coach has stressed the usefulness of it when having a large squad all looking to get minutes.

“I think it’s great, we’ve got a big squad here who need to play football, and games will be coming thick and fast throughout the season and so it's useful for some of the players who haven’t played many minutes to get on the pitch.

“We’ve got good strength in depth, so when we rotate, I don’t believe we are weakening the team at all, whatever team I pick could compete at League Two with no problems.”

Lindsey’s side will have the opportunity to make it three wins out of three in all competitions with a victory tomorrow, as they look to carry on building momentum after their slow start.

And the 50-year-old admitted that the recent uprise in form has been important to the atmosphere within the squad.

“After a win, you can feel the buzz within the camp, within yourself and within anybody connected to the football club.

‘However, I feel even after the games we were drawing, we were playing well and there was still a real sense of belief in what we were doing and that wins would inevitably arrive.”
