SWINDON Town head coach Scott Lindsey felt a point would have been a fair result following his team’s 2-1 defeat against Northampton Town on Saturday.

Following a drab and goalless first 45 at the County Ground, Swindon took the lead in the 62nd minute through Jonny Williams’ third of the season.

Cobblers substitute Ben Fox headed the visitors level six minutes later, and Mitch Pinnock completed the comeback in the dying embers to send Northampton top.

Following Swindon’s first defeat since the opening day reverse at Harrogate Town, Lindsey believed his team deserved more.

He said: “When I look back, I think we certainly shouldn’t have lost the game, in my opinion. But I also don’t think we did enough to win it.

“There were two moments where we’ve got to defend better. But I felt that we’ve gone toe-to-toe with a good side, and I felt that we were in the game.

“I don’t think we did enough to win it, but I also don’t think we should have lost it.”

Despite missing League Two top scorer, Sam Hoskins due to illness, Northampton showed their resilience all over the pitch and continued to pose a threat in the final third throughout.

Lindsey felt his side showed they are of similar ilk to the Cobblers though and echoed his earlier frustrations over not taking a point.

He said: “There were still chances in the game, you saw the header at the end by Ciaran Brennan which hit the post.

“You saw Jonny Williams when the ball was pulled back to him and he never really connected with it properly. There were moments where we should have scored, but they’re a good side.

“You’ve got to give them a bit of credit. They defend well, they’re horrible to play against in many ways, they’re good at what they do. But we’re good at what we do.

“Today, I don’t think we played our best, but we were probably still the better side. But you can’t defend moments like that and expect to win games of football.”
