SWINDON Town head coach Scott Lindsey hailed his team’s performance in their 5-2 win over Mansfield Town as “outstanding.”

Following Kellan Gordon’s first-minute opener and Will Swan’s 31st-minute strike, Swindon struck back twice through Jonny Williams to head into half-time all square at the One Call Stadium.

In a scintillating second-half display from Scott Lindsey’s men, Luke Jephcott put the visitors ahead before Ronan Darcy thundered in a stunning fourth and Ben Gladwin dispatched a late penalty to make it five.

Mansfield also had midfielder Hiram Boateng sent off for two yellow cards – one either side of the break.

Asked where his team’s best performance of the season came from, Lindsey said: “The players have been brilliant this week, I’ve got to be honest.

“It’s been a really tough week, travelling to Bradford on the day and picking a valuable point up. And then we come here and play the way we played and win the game in the manner that we did.

“Somebody said something to me the other day about Mansfield – they had only lost once at home in the calendar year. That’s incredible for us to come here and do what we’ve done.

“I thought we were outstanding. I really enjoyed the game, and I thought it was a proper game with the fans having a go at each other too.”

Lindsey made two changes to his starting XI on Saturday and switched formations too – a 4-1-2-1 caused havoc in the final third and allowed Swindon to recover from a disastrous start.

Discussing his tactical changes, Lindsey said: “We changed our shape slightly and played with Jephcott and Wakeling up top as a pair and Jonny (Williams) as a 10 – so in like a four-diamond-two – and it worked.

“We found spaces down the side of them, we knew their left wing-back would jump quite high.

“Obviously we didn’t start off too great, but it was almost like it didn’t matter to us. We stuck to our game plan, and we knew we had time to get back in the game.”
