SWINDON Town head coach Scott Lindsey felt his side deserved all three points following a 1-1 draw at home to Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

Town conceded inside the opening 15 minutes for the third game in a row when Saidou Khan’s mistake allowed Josh Hawkes to open the scoring in the 10th minute.

But Jacob Wakeling ended an eight-game goal drought to equalise shortly before the half-hour mark.

Following a hectic end to the game which featured a disallowed goal for Town and a glorious chance for Tranmere, Jordan Turnbull was shown a late red card for a high boot on Frazer Blake-Tracy.

Asked what Lindsey made of the point, the Town boss said: “Not enough. I think we did enough to probably grab all three.

“Their ‘keeper made some good saves towards the end of the game. I know there wasn’t loads of chances during the game, but I felt that we were the better side. And I felt we were the only team likely to go on and win it.

“I know they had that heart-in-mouth moment towards the end where they counter-attacked us, but in general I thought we were the better side.”

Lindsey opted to leave Jonny Williams out for Saturday’s draw in what would have been the Welshman’s final game before the World Cup.

The Town head coach stated Williams’ omission “had to be done” as the club “didn’t want to get in way” of such a seismic opportunity.

Lindsey said: “First of all, it’s a massive achievement for him to get to the World Cup.

“We didn’t want to get in the way of that and risk him. We were very wary of wanting to avoid him picking up an injury.

“It’s a massive situation for him, which we’re really proud of. And it’s big for the football club too. We’re really proud of the fact we have a player going to the World Cup.

“The fact that he was left out of the squad, it had to be done in a way. We wish him all the best.

“Hopefully he can have a great time out there and then come back unscathed and ready to play again.”
