SWINDON Town Women’s FA Cup second-round tie with Plymouth Argyle will take place at the County Ground on Sunday.

Town played their third-qualifying round game against Paulton Rovers at SN1 last month, storming to an emphatic 10-0 victory to book their spot in the first round proper.

James Lally’s side then beat FC Frampton Rangers 3-0 earlier in November to reach the furthest stage of the competition in the club’s history.

As a result of a successful run in the FA Cup, Swindon will now play National League Southern Premier Division Argyle, who edged past Cheltenham Town Ladies by four goals to two in the last round.

Should Swindon provide a cup upset on Sunday, they could come up against a Championship club as the group of teams including Bristol City and Crystal Palace enter the competition.

The second-round tie on Sunday kicks off at 1pm, and the men’s side is encouraging as many of their fans as possible to attend with Scott Lindsey’s team not having a game this weekend.

Tickets for the game are £3 for adults, £1 for OAPs, and free for under-18s. They can be purchased via Swindon Town’s website or collected from the club shop. Town say a “small number” will also be available on the day via the Legends Bar.

Hoping to break the record of 720 fans who attended the last game at SN1, women’s boss Lally is hopeful the team’s good form this season, combined with a vociferous home crowd, will help them spring a shock.

He said: “This is a great opportunity for us to pit ourselves against a team from the league above in this competition.

“We have had great momentum in the league and cup so far this season which will give us confidence heading into this game.

“Playing at the County Ground once more will also be a great platform for us to continue driving women’s football forward here at the club.”
