SWINDON prospect Lewis Roberts says support from his home town means everything to him as he continues to carve out a career in boxing.

Roberts, who is managed by Neilson Boxing, has fought four times since making his debut in November of last year.

The 20-year-old has a made a perfect start to life in the pro ranks, having won all four of his fights so far, and will be looking to improve his record even further when he features on Neilson Boxing’s final Fight Town show of the year on Saturday.

Throughout the year, Roberts has seen his support grow but admits he is on the lookout for further sponsors to help him as he prepares to be in title contention next year.

“Sponsors can get whatever they want out of me, whether that is tickets, advertising or public appearances,” he said.

“Sponsorships help massively with training, they can help get better sparring, better nutrition – my training costs a lot of money and the higher you want to go in the sport, the more the training costs.

“I think, with travelling, food and everything else, I pay out more than £500 a month on it, and I work full-time too.

“The support I get means everything to me, especially with the way things are in the world at the moment and everything being so expensive.

“The plan for next year is to have bigger fights and titles on the horizon.”

Reflecting on his year, Roberts revealed he was prepared to box again earlier this year but had to withdraw due to injury.

Despite the minor setback, he said he’s happy with how the inaugural year of his career has panned out.

“I was due to have another fight earlier this year but had an injury in training so had to pull out of that one.

“But now we are back to full sparring and ready to go,” he added.

“I think I’ve settled into my career well and I can feel that we are turning a corner now, ready to take it to the next level.

“Boxing in Swindon makes it so much easier, the atmosphere at the venue is always second to none too.”
