Swindon Town are looking to get more experience for some of their younger players by sending them out on loan.

Following a busy final week of the transfer window, Swindon have a first-team squad of 28 players, with more competition for places than has been the case in recent seasons.

Having signed four academy players to professional contracts, as well as signing youngsters Dylan Mitchell and Billy Kirkman as developmental prospects, Town have several players in need of more regular football to improve that they are unlikely to find at the Nigel Eady County Ground.

Mitchell has made two substitute appearances so far this season, with Kirkman, Jaxon Brown and Joel McGregor having been involved in matchday squads but Sonny Hart is yet to be part of an 18 this term.

Anton Dworzak and Pharrell Johnson have both already gone out on loan to Swindon Supermarine and Truro City respectively to help further their own development.

Kennedy said that was keen to see some of the squad’s younger players go out into Non-League and gain some more experience to put them in a position to challenge the first team down the line.

He said: “That is a conversation for Jamie [Russell] but the guys need minutes on the pitch.

“When you look at the depth of our squad now, although we are playing catch-up with a few players, for those lads to get in the team they would have to get some really good players out of the team.

“The most important thing is the development of the players and, for me, that means playing games.

“If I can’t give them that then it should be that we, as a club, find the right club for them to help them with their development for the future of the club and for them.”

Norwich City’s Dan Barden has arrived in goal and Kennedy said that part of the thinking about that was to allow Redman Evans to gain more experience.

He said: “It is important for Redman’s development because we think highly of him and he needs a games programme.

“It looks great on paper sitting on the bench in League Two all year and doing great but I think that you will end up having an underdeveloped player.

“It is so important, especially with a goalkeeper, that we make sure that he has got a games programme because he is such a talented player.”
