The Link Centre was buzzing on Saturday night as the Swindon Wildcats put on a show to beat last season's league champions Leeds 6-3. But they couldn’t quite get the four-point weekend narrowly losing 4-3 in Peterborough.
On Saturday, It would be a fast start by both teams but neither being able to create any clear-cut chances with both teams defending strongly.
Early in the second, it would be the Wildcats who opened the scoring with Josh Shaw firing it high past Sam Gospel. The Knights came back quickly with Matt Barron firing the puck from a tight angle into the net.
The visitors got into some penalty trouble and the Wildcats took full advantage with Ed Bradley scoring his third of the season before Aaron Nell added another powerplay goal before killing two from Leeds.
Kieran Brown got The Knights off to a quick start in the third but Swindon withstood the pressure before Josh Shaw raced away for his second.
The third line for Swindon did some fantastic battling again and were rewarded with Luc Johnson receiving a pass from Sam Bullas and firing it high into the goal.
Brown again found space and picked out the top corner as Leeds refused to give up but yet more defensive effort was rewarded as Edgars Bebris put the icing on the cake with an empty net goal to seal an important league and cup victory.
Against Peterborough, The Wildcats started the game with a five-minute powerplay opportunity and took full advantage with Glenn Billing tipping the puck into the net and added another from Jake Bricknell following a string of Renny Marr saves.
However, the Phantoms started the second much differently and got their first goal of the game. Cam Hough latched onto a rebound and fired high past Marr.

The Cats tied it up at three as Balint Pakozdi scored a brilliant goal from yet another powerplay. But the Phantoms hit back with a powerplay goal of their own, Salem capitalising on a loose puck.
The Wildcats threw everything at it in the final period but the Peterborough Phantoms defence stood strong to give the home side maximum points.
