Swindon Town are likely to be priced out of a move for Peterborough United striker Kabongo Tshimanga after he has impressed on loan.
Tshimanga netted his tenth league goal of the season this weekend as he slid home Ollie Clarke’s effort to get a vital goal back before half time during the 5-4 victory over Bradford City.
After a protracted pursuit of the 27-year-old last summer, played out publicly courtesy of Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony on his podcast, Swindon eventually added him on loan in the final week of the window.
Swindon were able to get Peterborough to agree to let him join with Town paying a proportion of his wages rather than the entirety.
GO DEEPER: Everything to know about Swindon Town contract decisions
The Congolese forward has impressed, proving to be a penalty specialist as he has netted six straight from 12 yards, among the best records in Europe this season.
Ian Holloway revealed last week that Town would not be able to afford the same squad next season due to the club undergoing vital pitch renovations, costing in the region of £160,000 in addition to the regular maintenance.
Swindon presently only have Harry Smith and Danny Butterworth signed up for next season among their attacking players
Tshimanga will be out of contract with the Vertu Trophy champions this summer, but Holloway said that it was unlikely they would be able to bring him back.
He said: “I have no idea what is going to happen in the summer and I have got to work all of those things out.
“The facts are, with where we are financially, what I need to do for the club is massive, and we have got to move everything forward, starting with the pitch.
“Some of these lads I know will not be here because their career will probably take them higher than us.
“Kabs [Tshimanga], for example, has done brilliantly for us, and he is a wonderful human being, but he is on a lot more money than we are paying him at the moment.
“I think he is out of contract, so who is going to want him after what he has done for us? Loads of people.
“Wouldn’t it be great if he came and played for us again? I would love it, but I am not in control of any of those things.
“I am going to do what I can to try and make us worth buying a ticket to watch.”
