CLUB captain Hasney Aljofree has told Town fans not to panic over the lack of transfer activity at the County Ground so far this summer, insisting Danny Wilson will soon bring in the headline-grabbers that will invigorate the team next term.

Many pundits tipped the Robins to bring in a number of players to compensate for the 13 that were released nearly a month ago, but so far only one man has signed, in the shape of former Doncaster Rovers defender Gordon Greer.

And while speculation about Simon Cox’s future has been incessant, rumours about new faces coming to Wiltshire have been far less prominent.

But Aljofree (pictured), currently recovering from a long-term knee injury, insisted: “It’s just going to be a matter of time. I think the manager’s got his targets and won’t be rushed into making any decisions.

“I think he will be clever regarding who he is going to bring in. He will bring in players who will spring a few headlines.

“There’s a lot of good players in the League - there are international players coming down to League One.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if the manager brings in some well-established players and raises a few eyebrows with some of his signings.”

With the recent permanent signing of Greer, one area Town are well-stocked is in central defence, with the likes of Aljofree, Sean Morrison, Jerel Ifil and Patrick Kanyuka all vying of a berth.

And the club skipper said he welcomed the competition and was hopeful it could make Town’s new season a positive one.

“Gordon did well when he came to us at the end of last season and proved what a good player he is,” said Aljofree.

“I think the manager is trying to get better players and Gordon is a better player, so it can only be good for the club.

“The emergence of Sean, big Patrick when he played there, we have Jerel, and me to come back.

“We all know there will be someone waiting on our shoulder. Hopefully that will make the difference.”

Aljofree has not yet played a match under the stewardship of Wilson, as he was injured a matter of days before the manager was appointed.

But the veteran centre-back says he has had assurances from Wilson about his involvement next season, in spite of his recent lack of first-team action.

Aljofree said: “He knows me from the past and knows what I can do, I’ve played against him many times.

“He’s said to me my fitness is the main thing, he wants to make sure my knee is correct.

“I’ve got the full support of the club and he’s been very receptive to all the lads, and I’ve had a good few chats with him.”
