ALAN O’Brien will be sent to a specialist to try and cure his recurring hamstring problems, but Town boss Danny Wilson insists the winger’s season is not over.

Irish international O’Brien arrived at the County Ground in the summer, but has made just a handful of appearances due to a succession of injuries.

The ex-Newcastle man’s latest comeback was put on ice when he sustained yet another hamstring strain playing for Swindon’s reserves on Tuesday night.

And O’Brien, pictured right, will now be referred to a specialist to attempt to rid him of these niggles for good.

Wilson admitted: “It is a worry, of course it is, and it’s back to the original leg now as well.

“He’s had problems on both legs and we will have to get him to see somebody who specialises in that field, and get to the root cause of it.

“We need to get to the bottom of it, because at this moment in time it is frustrating for everybody concerned.”

Despite only 14 games of the League One campaign remaining, Wilson refused to rule the 25-year-old out of Town’s promotion push.

“I don’t know whether Alan’s season is over, because we don’t know how bad it is really,” said the manager.

“I would suggest at this moment that no, it isn’t the end of his season, but until we get it assessed and get to the root of it then you’ve got to remain open-minded about it.”
