MARK Collier is set to add a former Swindon Town midfielder to his ranks after Japanese gem Ryo Matsunaga got Supermarine's promotion bid back on track on Saturday.

The unnamed target made over 30 appearances for the Robins between 1999 and 2001 and has since become an established figure in Southern Premier League Football.

Collier is hoping to seal the loan deal later today and believes the signing would be a "huge coup" after three goals in the dying minutes saw Marine return to winning ways at Aylesbury United's Buckingham Road ground.

After a host of gilt-edged chances came and went against the league's bottom of the table side, it began to look as though Marine would again be losing ground on their promotion rivals until the tireless Matsunaga put the hosts to the sword in an inspired ten minutes.

His never-say-die attitude earned the corner, which veteran Roger Emms headed home on 85 minutes, before doubling the lead himself minutes later and then, deep into injury time, conjuring up a sublime piece of skill on the touchline to create Neil Dix's third.

Marine boss Collier, said: "If it was a boxing match the match would have been stopped. We had the chances to take the game out of sight but I was pleased we kept focused and eventually took the points.

"I am pleased for Ryo. He has been out for a long time but has played the last three games and is coming back to his best. He is the type of player that needs games. Technically he is a very good player. He is nice and bright and inventive and with Neil Dix also doing well our options upfront are looking good."

New signing from Highworth Town, Mark Belcher, was on the substitute's bench as Collier moved quickly to add competition for the right back slot after the departure to Dublin of Chris Copp.

Collier fielded a new diamond formation in midfield, with Dave Pratt dropped to the bench, but it was Matsunaga who proved Marine's real jewel' with an all-action display.

The Japanese striker, who moved to Hunts Copse this summer, started slowly but he soon came to life and his constant pressure made a confidence lacking Thame defence look as though they could be walked through with every attack Matt Pratley, Danny Allen, and Matsunaga were all guilty of poor misses in a one-sided first half but the biggest culprit before the break was skipper Steve Davis, who headed wide from just yards out twice.

The second half was even more one-sided as Marine bombarded Thame's goal but, more by luck than judgement, the struggling Oxfordshire outfit looked as though they would hang on.

Pratley volleyed wide, Emms blasted over and headed wide and Harris saw his over-head kick saved by goalkeeper Paul Searl as a healthy away following began to fear the worst.

With 15 minutes remaining, Dix was thrown on as third forward but the chances were still being missed until Matsunaga wriggled his way through to create a shooting chance for Dix, which was deflected over on 85 minutes.

From Ian Howell's right wing corner, Emms rose above the Thame defence to head home and minutes later the lead had been doubled after Matsunaga scored from close range following a driving run and strike from Pratley.

There was still time for Dix to race onto Matsunaga's through ball, dispossessing teammate Pratt in the process, and jubilantly roll the ball home to seal the points.

A SHAUN Wimble free-kick and a Lee Smith strike handed Cirencester Town a valuable 2-1 win at home to Aylesbury United on Saturday as their bid to escape relegation from the premier division gathers pace.

A 92nd minute equaliser cost second placed Chippenham Town at home to Kings Lynn as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw after Dave Gilroy's 76th minute opener.
