WOMEN'S & GIRLS FOOTBALL: Swindon Spitfires earned a place in the semi-final of the Bristol Cup with a convincing 5-2 win at Bristol Rovers on Sunday.

Both teams started at a furious pace with Rovers going in front within 10 minutes after a mix up at the back resulted in a backpass flying into an empty Spitfires net.

The Spits then put a lot of pressure on the Rovers defence and after several half chances Hayley Huckin put the ball past the Rovers keeper from a Vicky Taylor cross to level the score before half time.

The second half saw the Spitfires put Rovers under even more pressure and Huckin scored again when she reacted quickly to connect with a well driven free-kick from Claire White.

Vicky Taylor then added to the score after good play down the right from Bev Maull.

Rovers pulled one back a minute later only for Taylor to score her second of the game.

Huckin completed the scoring and her hat-trick to give the Spitfires a well-deserved win.

Spitfires squad: Diane George, Natalia Wilson, Claire White, Cara Stacey, Caroline Hook, Mel Bristow, Zofie Stepien (Capt), Hayley Huckin, Vicky Taylor, Bev Maull.
