WOMEN'S & GIRLS FOOTBALL: A combination of the freezing conditions on Saturday and the flu bug that is around at the moment resulted in a number of postponements in the Wiltshire Womens' and Girls' League.
In the Under 10 Division, Cricklade Youth moved three points clear with a convincing 10-0 win away to Trowbridge Wanderers.
Cricklade goals came from Olivia Longstaff (5), Sian Towler (3) and Edeb Cooke (2).
Second-placed Swindon Spitfires were forced to postpone their match due to a frozen pitch, and in the other match Trowbridge Town Youth entertained Derry Hill at Trowbridge Cricket Club following the recent vandalism at their home ground. They must have found their new venue to their liking running out 3-0 winners over 6th placed Derry Hill.
In the Open Age Division, Bradford moved to the top of the league with a close fought game against previous leaders Swindon Spitfires at South Marston, winning 2-1.
In the Under 14 11-a-side Division, Derry Hill played host to second-placed Clevedon.
Several of the Derry Hill players had been away on a school trip for the week and consequently only 10 players were available.
But the team put up a spirited fight, especially in the first half and only went behind to a dubious goal that appeared offside after dominating the opening 10 minutes.
Clevedon added three further goals before Derry Hill got one back through Nicole Dowell.
The same player scored again following Clevedon's fifth and at half-time the score was 7-2.
The Derry Hill girls were clearly tiring but managed to battle to keep the score respectable, with some great saves from Mary Brodie in goal.
This was, however, a great improvement on the 25-goal defeat suffered in the opening game of the season. In the other match, Swindon Spitfires consolidated third position with a 6-2 victory over Wootton Bassett (see report on opposite page).
Only one match survived in the 7-a-side Division, with Swindon Town Blues running out 3-0 winners against Blunsdon Colts at Sutton Park.
The win moves Swindon to within two points of second-placed Bradford who were once again without a game due to postponement by their opposition.
Only one match survived in the u12 Green Division, but it involved the leaders Swindon Town Reds who maintained their 100 per cent record with a 5-0 victory over mid-table FC Chippenham Youth.
The win leaves Swindon 12 points clear with five matches to play.
The Red Division fared better, with only the previous joint leaders Swindon Badgers White's scheduled match at Mere not being played.
Third-placed Swindon Town Nosbees took advantage and closed the gap to Badgers to two points with a 4-1 victory away to Cricklade Youth.
Highworth Juniors A moved into fourth place with a comfortable victory over Swindon Spitfires B, 5-1 being the final score.
An under strength Derry Hill also took advantage of Badgers' enforced layoff to go clear at the top, with a comprehensive win over lowly Westfield.
Emily Bogg scored another nine goals to take her season's tally past the 50 mark, while Rachel Sykes also scored a hat-trick, Elsie Sims scored twice and Hazel Alabaster completed the scoring.
