CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE: A thrilling game at the Beeches saw Second Division Steeple Ashton (Sunday) squeeze into the third round of the Westernsport-sponsored WG Parr Trophy at the expense of Fourth Division AFC Pilot who they defeated after 120 minutes and a penalty shoot-out.

Ashton scored after only 27 seconds through Iljaz Iljazi. Mike Smith hit a stunning equaliser for Pilot on four minutes and they took the lead via a Greg Wilmot header on 40 minutes.

Ashton got a deserved equalizer on 65 courtesy of Fikrit Isiktan.

The 90 minutes finished 2-2 and with no goals in extra time it came down to a shoot out which Ashton won 2-0 thanks to successful kicks from Nathan Holloway and Lee Hayward to book their place in the next round where they face Wheatsheaf.

Semington Rovers set up a quarter final showdown with fellow First Division outfit Holt after they overcame FC Colerne 2-0. Stuart Barber scored an early goal for Rovers and Lee Jackson missed a penalty before Barber struck from the spot 10 minutes from time.

Holt made hard work of disposing of Third division Somerford FC but they came through by virtue of a 2-1 success.

After a goalless first period Tom Pang and Mark Elliott scored to give them a 2-0 lead, Somerford came back into the game with Chris Yeo cutting the gap after a howler from Andy Cryer.

Corsham Centre stretched their lead at the top of the Premier Division. The Centre's 8-1 triumph at Bradford News saw them open up a four-point gap on Biddestone Social who were without a game and a six-point gap on champions Westbury Rangers A.

Bradford News held out for 30 minutes but by half-time their were trailing 3-0 and the game was all over within five minutes of the restart as the Centre added a further two goals.

Russell Gibbings led the scoring with four, Simon Gray added two, Ross Lye and Scott Lye made up the eight.

Charlie Powell's well-taken goal late in the game was the Newsmen's consolation.

Westbury Rangers A stayed in touch with the top two after disposing of Box Rovers 6-2.

Rovers cause wasn't helped by the dismissal of Stuart Tutty for a professional foul. A Pete Ayton goal after 30 seconds set Rangers on their way, a Marc Lanfear double put them 3-0 up at the interval and although Jamie Harrison pulled one back for Rovers, Lewis Porter scored from the penalty spot for Rangers after Tutty was sent off to restore their three-goal advantage.

Two more goals from Lanfear, one of which was a spectacular overhead effort saw him take his personal tally for the game to four and Rangers to six.

Tim Jefferies scored Rovers' second from the penalty spot.

Corsham Cricket Club heaped more misery on Hullavington who suffered a ninth loss on the spin when they went down 6-0.

Martin Ford struck a brace to take his tally to four in three games, Graham Ford, John Freegard, Jamie Holland and recent signing Geoff Goodway shared the others in the Cricketers' third win of 2006.
