Under 12s take county crown at Bassett event: CORSHAM were crowned county Under 12 champions as they swept all before them at Wootton Bassett.

They took the title ahead of Salisbury by winning all six of their matches in the round-robin competition and not conceding a try in the process.

There was disappointment for the injury-hit host club, whose side finished sixth out of the seven teams.

The team failed to record a win in their six games, although they pushed Chippenham, Swindon and Devizes (all 10-5 defeats) close.

Swindon fared better in fourth, just behind Chippenham.

Their 16-strong squad opened up with a superb 4-1 win over Cooper Avon before drawing 1-1 with Devizes.

Their first defeat came next as Salisbury beat them 2-1, but they responded by defeating Bassett by the same score.

Losses in the final two games, (2-0 to Chippenham and 4-0 to Corsham) rounded off their tournament.
