ALAN O'Brien has left Swindon after having his contract terminated by mutual consent.

The speedy Irish winger joined the club on a two-year deal back in July 2009 but failed to make an impact during his time at the County Ground.

O'Brien started just four games in his first season under former boss Danny Wilson before a recurring hamstring injury further hampered his involvement with the first team.

The 25-year-old forced his way back into the reckoning this year and managed to double his number of starts for Town before Wilson was sacked at the end of February.

But under current boss Paul Hart, O'Brien made just one appearance, coming off the bench in the 1-0 defeat to Plymouth.

Since then he made a string of appearances in the reserves but has now decided to depart for pastures new in order to find a club before a deluge of players are released in the summer.

“Alan has had his contract terminated by mutual consent,” said Hart.

“We have let him go so he has the chance now of finding another club.
