RELEGATION to League Two has led Billy Bodin to reassess his ambitions for next season and he now believes he can challenge for a regular place in the Swindon Town attack.

The Wales Under 21 international explained to the Advertiser a few weeks ago that he would be looking to go out on loan next season in order to gain first-team experience.

However, Bodin has been involved in Town’s last two league games, coming off the bench against Sheffield Wednesday last week and then starting in his father Paul’s first game in charge against Oldham on Saturday.

And now he believes he has the ability to start regularly at League Two level, and will spend the coming months working hard to ensure he is one of the names included in the starting 11 come August.

“Now we have gone down I believe I can play at League Two level,” Bodin told the Advertiser.

“If I can keep playing next season that will be great but if not then I will obviously look to go out on loan. If that does not happen then I will keep trying to get into the first team.”

Bodin’s versatility will make him a useful part of the squad next season, given that he is just as comfortable playing in midfield as he is in attack.

The 19-year-old has even been deployed in defence before and he admitted he is happy to play any role that is asked of him as long as it means he is playing league football.

“I play everywhere to be fair,” he added. “Normally I play just behind the striker so I can drop into the hole and create goals, but I have been played in lots of different positions, like left back and centre midfield, so I feel comfortable anywhere.”

Playing as a striker, though, is clearly where Bodin believes he can establish himself, and is hoping the things he has learned from two former Town strikers will stand him in good stead for his own future development.

He said: “I watched Charlie Austin and Billy Paynter last year and I learnt a lot off them, so hopefully I can take that into the start of the next season.”

For now, Bodin's immediate target is to impress again during training this week to ensure he is named in the side for the final game of the season at Tranmere on Saturday.

"I thought I did pretty well (against Oldham)." he continued. "In the first half I gave a few passes away and few touches were not great, but slowly I got into the game more and I felt I did okay in the end. Hopefully I will get my chance so I can show the fans a bit more of what I can do against Tranmere and hopefully get a goal."
