FC CHIPPENHAM Youth lifted the Corsham Print Senior Cup with victory in a penalty shootout over New College in an exciting final at Corsham Town’s Southbank ground.

With the sides level at a goal apiece after 90 minutes, the tie went into extra time where both teams added a further goal as the tie was sent to penalties.

Kent Kauppinen gave Chippenham the lead at the break with a good finish from the edge of the box.

Several chances went begging in the second half before Josh Skeates equalised for College with a far-post header with just four minutes remaining.

The students, who had been chasing the game, suddenly found themselves in front soon after the start of extra time, as Skeates was again on hand to power a header into the net.

Chippenham fought back and had a goal disallowed before they eventually drew level midway through the second period through Tom Jones to send the tie into penalties.

Chippenham eventually wrapped up victory, winning the shootout 4-3 and delighted boss Dave Ferris said his side showed character in coming back from 2-1 down, and lavished praise on his 17-year-old keeper Jack Haines, who made two fine saves in the shootout.

Mark Teasdale, manager of the College, said: “Obviously I was disappointed with the result, but not how we played.

“The lads competed well and played their part in a good final.”

Substitute John Horgan was brought on for the injured Trevest soon after the start of the second half and duly scored twice to make sure of victory for his side.

Intel boss Mark Allen was over the moon with the result, adding: “They beat us twice in the league so we knew we were going to be the underdogs.

“It was a great result for the lads and they all worked hard for it.”
