CIRENCESTER’S big-hitting assistant professional Gareth Bennett’s team clinched victory in the Minchinhampton Pro-Am.

Triumphant Bennett also managed a round of 61 in the event which attracted 53 entrants.

Bennett’s team, Autocrafts, which included Mike Pobjoy, Mike Lee and Steve Lewis, scored 105 to win top spot by three shots.

European Seniors Tour player Andrew Sherborne (The Kendleshire) led the John McNally & Co team from Stroud into second place with Paul, Mark and Craig McNally making it a family affair.

The Seniors Monthly Stableford was a windy affair, with only a handful of players getting to grips with the conditions.

Geoff Southwell took victory ahead of the other 53 entrants with a superb score of 41 points.

Runner-up was Eric Varcoe, who also won the lower handicap Division One with 38 points. The minor honours in Division One went to Geoff Kirman (36 points) and Tony Crowther (35 points).

In Division Two, four players scored 37 points, with Richard Rollett winning on countback from Ian Allen, Bob Allen and Peter Knight.

Ciren stormed to victory in their latest seniors match against Cotswold Edge winning 5½-1½.

The scores were level after three matches courtesy of John Thurston and Mike Bishop’s halved match and a sound 4&2 win by Finlay and Allen.

Ciren though took victory, winning the next four matches which included an empahtic 5&4 win by Southwell and Taylor.

Elsewhere, Colin Farr and Cliff Culley won Broome Manor’s Secretary’s Cup with a nett 63.5.

Winning the ladies’ event was Gayner Deacon and Anna-Marie Dutton with 65.5.

Runners-up for the men were Aaron Prictor and Mark Forte (nett 64.0) and in third were Wes Rawlings and Gary Donachie (nett 65.0). In second place for the ladies were Marion James and Paula Corfield with a nett 66.5 while in third went to Julie Pullen and Val Mesure with a nett 67.0
