JONATHAN Douglas could still be wearing a Town shirt come August as negotiations between the player and the club continue.

The midfielder has been away on holiday for the last month and though the Swindon hierarchy chose not to take up the option to extend his contract recently, they still see him as an important part of their plans for the coming season.

Douglas stated on a number of occasions towards the end of the previous campaign that he was settled at Town and would be willing to stay, despite the prospect of playing League Two football.

The appointment of Paolo Di Canio was also welcomed by Douglas, with a source close to the player having told the Advertiser towards the end of last month that the former Leeds man was ‘delighted’ with the Italian’s appointment.

While Douglas has been out of the country, Jeremy Wray has been negotiating a new deal with the player’s agent and Town’s interim chairman is pleased with how things are developing.

Wray told the Advertiser: “Dougie has been away on holiday for the last few weeks but I have been speaking with his agent during that time.

“Negotiations are ongoing but I am confident he will be here for the new season.”

Looking less likely to stay at the club, though, is defender Lecsinel Jean-Francois.

After struggling to cement a regular starting spot during the first half of last season the Haiti international played a more prominent role towards the end of the campaign.

Lecsinel and Michael Timlin were one of four players recently offered fresh terms and while Mark Scott and Nathan Thompson have agreed new contracts, the club are still waiting to hear back from the duo.

Wray has still to speak with Timlin, who is also believed to be talking with Southend, but he has confirmed that Lecsinel looks to set to move on this summer.

“Lecs looks like he will be going elsewhere,” he added. “He has had offers from two clubs in higher divisions.”
