AMENITIES at Westlecot Bowls Club have been boosted thanks to the Swindon Sports Forum and speedway club Swindon Robins.

Westlecot president John Wilson said: "Clubs in Swindon all try to recruit new members on a regular basis often through open days and taster sessions.

"Shortage of volunteers and increasing costs cause problems but we are fortunate that the Swindon Sports Forum can make a real difference to local clubs, coordinating support for sports in the town, enabling access to advice, bidding for, attracting and annually allocating funds it has sourced.

"The club recently received an extremely generous donation from Swindon Speedway for purchase of a bowls’ specific wheelchair for the use of mobility restricted bowlers.

“With funding from the Swindon Sports Forum, the club has purchased access ramps for its Indoor and Outdoor rinks for this wheelchair and fundraising continues to expand the participation of disabled local players. "

MEN’S Wiltshire Four Rink League in the north of the county has a decidedly familiar look to it.

Despite the ten Swindon clubs that competed in Area A last season and five clubs from Area B, Royal Wootton Bassett, Westlecot, Purton, Wroughton and Marlborough joining up to form the new 15-team North Area this season nothing seems to have changed.

Westlecot top the table with 41 points out of a possible 42 with three wins out of three with Bassett one point behind on 40 from their three games.

While in third place are another ex-Area B side Purton with two wins and a defeat on 25points just ahead of Wanborough.
