MEL Briggs’ quartet booked their place in the Wiltshire Fours semi-final.

The Royal Wootton Basset team of Tom Walkey, Terry Walton, Neil Smith and skip Briggs defeated club-mates James Nobbs, Chris Cheesley, Craig Morphet and skip Gary Morphet 26-12 at Westlecot on Tuesday night.

Briggs’ team will be joined in the semi-finals, which will take place at Devizes on Sunday, June 18, by Carl Fernandes’ Swindon quartet after they defeated Avon 22-14.

Making up their last four will be Chippenham Town, who will face Bassett, and Holt, who have been drawn against Swindon.

The semi-final winners will not only secure their place in the county final ay Devizes at the end of July but will also represent Wiltshire at the National Fours championship in Royal Leamington Spa in August.

Meanwhile, the Wiltshire men’s triples quarter-finals were due to table place at Holt last night.

WESTLECOT and Royal Wootton Bassett have supplied 15 of the 24 players for the Wiltshire squad that get their Middleton Cup campaign underway today when they take on 2015 winners Devon.
