WILTSHIRE Ladies are back on the winning trail in the Johns Trophy following a 104-102 success over Cornwall at Tiverton West End.

Having lost to Dorset in their opening west group match, the county, managed a two-shot victory despite trailing across the board after 15 ends.

Rink honours were shared 3-3 with Stratton Churchway’s Janet Willis, recalled as a skip for this match, leading the victory charge.

Her foursome of Bassett’s Maisie Daniell, Janice Rowe (Amesbury), Deanne Davis (Wanborough) and herself recorded the biggest winning margin of 14 shots, while Marcia Hartley (Avon) led her rink to an eight shots win and Alex Jacobs (Box) with Purton duo Chris Mitchell and Alison Fail in her quartet edged home by three shots.

The win for Wiltshire, who picked up 16 of the 22 points on offer, moved them up to second behind unbeaten leaders Somerset, who host the county next Saturday.

For that match at Clevedon, Wiltshire have recalled Jean Collier (Box), Ann Roberts-Phare (North Wilts), Carol Grenfell (Box), Wendy Anderson (Stratton Churchway) and Linda Young (Highworth).

Rink 5: Dawn Toomer (Wilton), Mo Woolley (Alderbury), Laura Laytham (Town Gardens) & Margaret Annetts (Salisbury) lost to Shirley Coad 12-19.

Rink 6: Kara Little (Box), Ann Hindley (Wilton), Bev Lilley (Devizes) and Delia Godwin (Spencer Melksham) lost to Jenny Prime 14-20.

WILTSHIRE have booked their place in the Walker Cup regional semi-final following their 49-45 success over Gloucestershire.

The County will face Herefordshire in the last four at Victoria BC in Weston-super-Mare with the winners facing either Somerset or Cornwall in the final on July 16.

Against, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire made a slow start and were 12-10 down overall after five ends but led 22-20 after 10.

The county stormed stretched that lead to 36-29 after 15 ends before securing the 49-45 success.

LADIES National championship singles have reached the quarter-finals and semi-finals stages and will be played down to the last two today at Rodbourne Cheney (10.15am).

The two semi-final winners qualifying for the county final at Alderbury on July 29 and will represent Wiltshire at Royal Leamington Spa in August in the national championships singles event.

In the northern section of the county singles played on Monday night Linda Young (Highworth) and Deanne Davis (Wanborough) booked their places in the last eight with wins over Alison Fail (Purton) and Charlotte Daniell (Royal Wootton Bassett) respectively.

Chris Mitchell (Purton) missed out losing to Viv Baskerville (Chippenham Town) while Laura Laytham (Town Gardens) faced Chippenham Town’s Irene Button last night in her bid to make the quarter-final.

WILTSHIRE LADIES latest friendly match on Wednesday against Glamorgan in Cardiff had to be switched indoors because of the extremely wet weather conditions.

Rink honours were shared 3-3 but Wiltshire were just edged out on shots losing the friendly 98-94.

Local players Pat Jones (Supermarine) and Babs Salter (Wroughton) both skipped their rinks to one shot victories.
