LUCY and Katy Smith have won their fifth successive ladies U25s Wiltshire title to book their place at Royal Leamington Spa.

The Royal Wootton Bassett sisters beat Georgina Newman (Avon) and Kara Little (Box) in the final 22-12 despite being 6-1 down after six ends.

Lucy Smith will also feature in the mixed pairs at Leamington alongside former England international Graham Shadwell, while she also beat her sister Katy 21-15 in the U25 singles semi-final to seal her place in the national competition and in today’s final at Alderbury against Newman.

The other final at Purton last weekend, Salisbury beat Supermarine foursome of Carol Sandry, Glenice Truman, Susan Griffiths and Pat Jones 21-20 in the O55 fours final.

Ladies O55 fours final: Carol Sandry, Glenice Truman, Susan Griffiths & Pat Jones (Supermarine) lost to Ann Hindley, Dawn Toomer, Lesley Trattles & Cathy Burrows (Wilton) 20-21.

U25 pairs semi-finals: Georgina Newman (Avon) & Kara Little (Box) beat Beth Little (Box) & Joanna Hicks (Highworth) 29-12; Lucy & Katy Smith (RWB) beat Maisie & Charlotte Daniell (RWB) 19-12.

Final: U25 Pairs: Lucy & Katy Smith beat Georgina Newman & Kara Little 22-13.

THE foursome of Bassett duo Barry Sictorness and Chris Cheesley together with Purton’s Chris Mitchell and Alison Fail have reached the Area 9 final (Dorset & Wilts) in the national mixed fours competition.

They have won four matches to date and are one step away from a place at Royal Leamington Spa in the national championships.

The quartet were due to play Michael Chislett’s rink from Greenhill (Weymouth) in the Dorset & Wilts final of the mixed fours at Shaftesbury last night.

ROYAL Wootton Bassett will meet Poole Park in the Top Club’s Area Nine Dorset and Wilts final.

Bassett, who must play Poole by August 6, secured their place in the final by beating Holt 4-1.

WESTLECOT have enjoyed success this season in Area 9 Dorset and Wilts men’s section of the Double Fours.

They thumped Amesbury in the Wiltshire final 49-21 winning on both rinks after only 16 ends when Amesbury conceded.

Westlecot now face Dorset side Branksome Park, Poole in the Dorset and Wilts Double Fours final.

THE father and son combination of Graham and Craig Hatherall have reached the last eight at Royal Leamington Spa in the family pairs.

To reach the quarter-finals they beat Milton Park’s David Biggs and partner in the Area Two final.
