SWINDON'S Jamie Cox showed no signs of ring rust as he blasted his way to a second round win over Harry Matthews at the O2 Arena.

The 31-year-old southpaw was back in the ring for the first time since losing to George Groves in the World Super Series last October.

Cox, whose record now stands at 25-1, added a further knockout to his impressive record as a professional as he dispatched Matthews with ease at the O2 Arena, where he was on the undercard of heavyweight clash between Dillian Whyte and Lucas Browne.

As the opening of their scheduled six rounder came and went, it became clear Cox was the better fighter of the two as he walked his opponent down throughout the first three minutes.

The Swindon man also landed a cruching body shot on his opponent after dodging a loaded right-hand from Matthews.

In the second round, Cox upped the tempo and ended the contest with a counter-right, which caught Matthews by surprise as he was knocked down and unable to beat the count.

Cox will now turn his attention to his next contest, which sees him face John Ryder at the O2 Arena on the David Haye v Tony Bellew II show on Saturday, May 5 over 12 rounds.
