SWINDON skipper Marc Williamson says it is much too early to allow talk of a WEPL Wiltshire title tilt to creep into the camp.

Williamson’s side reached the midway point of the season last weekend with victory at home to Westbury & District – their sixth success from nine league matches.

They currently sit third in the table, 32 points behind leaders Marshfield, who lost for the first time this summer last time out.

It is Marshfield’s maiden conquerors – second-placed Devizes – who Swindon face on the road this weekend, so another win for Williamson’s side could well lift them up a spot in the standings.

However, given the fact that there are nine matches still to play this season, and the first being against opposition of proven quality on Saturday, Williamson says the only focus in the Swindon set-up is on the here and now.

“We’ve had a good start to the season. We’ve won six games and only lost one, so we’re in a good place,” said Williamson.

“The lads have played some good cricket and we’ve been able to put performances together throughout a whole game. Long may that continue.

“We have to keep taking it one week at a time, though. The only focus is on the next game – we can’t look any further ahead than that.

“It’s still early days and we have still got to play every team again. We will just take it week by week and see where that takes us and where we end up.

“Devizes are a good side – as they proved last weekend. We will go there and give the best account of ourselves that we can and see what we can get out of the game.”

Elsewhere, Royal Wootton Bassett will be looking to make it a third win in a row when they play host to Westbury.

Finally, Purton face a stiff task to add to their two wins so far this summer as they are away at league leaders Marshfield.
